EPSCoR MILES

The EPSCoR MILES program builds Idaho's capacity to study complex social-ecological processes, especially those associated with water demand and valuation of ecosystem services. This research characterizes patterns and identifies social drivers of urban growth and ecological change, including valuable ecosystem services.

Total residue (suspended and dissolved solids) load calculations for two inflow locations and the outflow location at Fernan Lake, Idaho (April 2014-April 2015)

The following description is the calculation of daily total residue loads using the non-parametric smearing method, see references below. 15 minute interval stages were converted to discharge values using the rating curve equation developed by T. LaCroix. (1) Daily loads were calculated by multiplying measured total residue (TR) concentrations by the corresponding discharge values (both occurring at 15:00). (2) The natural log of daily TR loads was then plotted as a function of the natural log of discharge and a linear relationship was determined. (2) A bias-correction factor was estimated as the mean of the residuals. (2) To estimate daily TR loading, the linear model and corresponding bias-correction factor was applied to the continuous discharge data for each site in the log transformed form. (3) The daily TR loading estimates were summed to estimate annual loads. The data file named "Smearing Method MW_TR.csv" is the main Fernan Creek inflow station record. The data file "Smearing Method NS_TR.csv" is the Stacel Creek station record. The file "Smearing Method OF_TR.csv" is the outflow dam station record. Each data file has a separate "readme" file to explain each data column fully. These are named "Readme MW_TR.txt", "Readme NS_TR.txt" and "Readme OF_TR.txt" and correspond to the three data files listed above. References: Colin TA. 1995.
